I am an artist who has been working with children at Gillian's Rainbow Bridge. I teach the children to weave using botanical dyed wool and sticks and how to make a floral arrangement in a teacup, both of which are taken home at the end of the day. Some of the wool and all of the sticks, flowers and foliage come from the quality replica watches farm.

We usually sit together, on the straw littered rug in the cosy barn, surrounded by the sweet smells of the animals that live in there each night when we work on our weaving. Usually a dog or three join us, either lying across the rug or leaning against anyone willing to pat them. Sitting there together, surrounded by animals, using natural materials to make our crafts, such as hand spun wool, sticks, flowers, horsehair and leaves feels extremely nurturing and calming.

Too often children are rushed from activity to activity or left to stare at screens for their 'entertainment', but at Gillian's Rainbow Bridge they are given the chance to slow down and make a deeper connection with each other, with animals and with nature. The materials we use are organic, handmade and sourced locally, reflecting the farms connection with nature and care for the environment

It has been during the craft sessions, either as we wander around the property together picking flowers (or finding that right stick for a project) or sitting together weaving that children share some of their lives with me and with each other. Children have felt safe enough to talk about being bullied or about a parent is terminally ill or able to share that they are having such a wonderful day and why. Conversations flow during these sessions, while hands and eyes are busy on craft.

Being in a small group of only 8 children gives a sense of intimacy and security. I notice a change in the children as they connect with the farm and cheap replica watches the animals. It feels so good to see them happy to get dirty, excited to explore the bush, eager to spot toadstools and begin to look a little deeper at the world around them.

I am very proud to work at Gillian's Rainbow Bridge and always leave each session with a feeling of connection with the children that have spent their day on the farm.
