It was a sad day at Gillian’s Rainbow Bridge yesterday when we had to make that most difficult decision. I had been treating Little Ray for what I thought was a foot problem, but when Brett our local vet turned him over we were surprised to see a huge tumour on his breast plate. There was nothing we could do to save Little Ray, the position of the tumour made it impossible to treat.
I was in shock, I had no idea a huge aggressive tumour had formed. It was the fact that Little Ray wanted to stay inside, away from the flock, combined with my concern that my treatment wasn’t improving the situation that made me get the vet. This was one of those times when Gill would have taken a lateral approach, discovering the problem quickly. I on the other hand kept thinking it was his feet, but thankfully I phoned the vet.
After much discussion and a deep breath we decided the kindest thing was to put Little Ray down. He was one of the sheep I had rescued over ten years ago, a big gentle boy who enjoyed life here at Whelans Road. Little Ray was never in a hurry, happy to plod along, take it easy in life, enjoying each day as it came. He loved his food, lucerne hay, sheep pellets and big helpings of carrots were his favourites. His little tail would wiggle enthusiastically as he received his nightly meal and a soft and gentle cuddle finished the day. When he was a youngster Little Ray, Arrow and Charlotte would come with me for walks along our quite road. Little Ray was often distracted, he would find a lush grassy spot where he could happily graze, then as I called he would slowly join the group.
What a life he had, over ten years of contented happiness. Little Ray has gone to find Gill at the Rainbow Bridge where she will welcome him and look after him. He was always a pleasure to have and we thank him for being part of our swiss replica watches lives.
We miss you already Little Ray but know you are in safe hands with Gill.
