GRB-Pakenham Garden Show

Date:11th September 2014| Category:General
I am finding this weird communication of emails extremely useful these days and as I was checking my emails I noticed Lyndi’s name popping up. That means a Garden Show might be in order, so my ears were instantly pricked, and yes one was planned for September and to my surprise the venue was Beaconhills College where Travis and Gill attended a wonderful school.

When visiting the school I found it brought back lovely memories of Gill. She was so cleaver but homework, essays and exams didn’t quite fit her lifestyle, she would rather be outside riding a horse, laughing with friends or thinking about boys. Not to worry, she later loved being a qualified vet nurse and Clinic Manager taking this very seriously and I was always proud of her. Many teachers at Beaconhills were taken by Gill including her positive outgoing approach to life and the school was proud of her equestrian achievements.

Back to gardens, salvias and perennials- when thinking of Gill I get easily distracted. The Garden Show was wonderful best replica watches , it wasn’t hard to soak up the sun as you browsed the many stalls, my favourites being the salvias and perennials. I helped out for a short time at the Salvia stall, the Salvia ladies are a delight to be with, all eager to help the customers choose the perfect plant for their garden-so many salvias to choose form, with an array of colours and sizes to meet everyone’s needs. I love the enthusiasm of gardeners, they come from far afield and age holds now boundaries, also a budget is a wise way to keep the purse strings in order.

A couple of my favourites Salvia’s purchased at the Pakenham Garden Show include; S ‘Black Knight’, S Dorisiana, also called fruit scented sage, S confertiflora and two new ones, S greggii ‘Wensley Apricot’ and S greggii ‘Desert Sunset’.

Also some new perennials acquired on the day are-Dianthus Barbatus-‘Sooty’, Geranium himalayense, geranium magnificum and Trifolium rubens ‘Red Feather’.

Spring is awash with Garden Shows and Open Gardens, so if you love gardening, specialist plants and ideas on garden design keep an eye and ear open in your local paper, the radio, the website and flyers. Wallingford will be open in late October and Steels Creek will be holding their annual fair in early November. More news on these two soon.

If you're a garden lover, have you considered joining a club, perhaps a local general one or even a specialist group like the Victorian Salvia Study Group. There you will make friends, learn more about gardening to compliment your skills and support your community. Give it a go.
